Safeguarding
What is Safeguarding?
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our students.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students is defined as ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ (KCSIE), namely:
- Protecting children from mistreatment
- Preventing impairment of children’s health or development
- Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
- Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes
- Students’ mental health
School staff are particularly important, as they are in a position to identify concerns early, provide help for children, promote children’s welfare and prevent concerns from escalating.
Our school believes that all Staff should provide a caring, positive, safe and stimulating environment that promotes the social, physical and moral development of every child. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent, effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff at our school.
Staff, Visitors and Volunteers
All of our Staff and volunteers are asked to undertake a DBS check or appropriate recognised safeguarding check such as ICPC and provide ID and references as part of our safeguarding procedures. Our visitors are required to sign in and wear a school badge. They are also escorted by a member of staff.

Safeguarding Curriculum
Safeguarding and the promotion of British values is central to our work at our school. We plan to constantly challenge children to think deeply about safeguarding matters and their own personal physical and mental wellbeing.
Priority is placed on identifying opportunities in the structured and unstructured curricula, for children to learn about safeguarding which is is core to our school.
Our unique curriculum and values give pupils opportunities to experience life in all its diversity, to acquire resilience, knowledge, understanding and skills that significantly impact on personal development, behaviour, welfare and safety and equips every child with the knowledge and skills required for personal safeguarding.
Our outdoor learning offers a unique opportunity to learn about safety in our locality, including understanding risks.
Our PSHE curriculum covers many different areas of Safeguarding including drugs and alcohol education, anti-bullying, healthy relationships, citizenship and health education. We are sensitive in our teaching and recognise that some more sensitive subjects need to be taught at an age-appropriate level.
Safeguarding opportunities are planned into the curriculum, for example:
- Safeguarding Assemblies
- PSHE Safeguarding topics for form time
- Global Citizenship curriculum
- Subject specific integration of Safeguarding (English/ Humanities/ PE/ Science/ Design & Technology/ Art

Online safety and the use of social media
It is of great importance that we keep our staff, pupils and families safe online. Everyone is taught about online safety.
Our school uses a reliable and efficient network security device to monitor and filter the internet.
Our School also uses MyConcern for recording and managing all safeguarding concerns.
